Richard Bist is a writer, a Podcast Host, and a foodie enthusiast! And he is the fifth featured writer in The Writers Lift!
Richard has been writing professionally for over 20 years and has two self-published short story collections. Writing has always been his thing. He spends most of his time all by himself creating. His wide imagination leads him to make different worlds with pirates, aliens, and hidden treasures. He said:
“ I have a weak spot for weird and strange fiction, stuff that’s often outside the mainstream. And apparently, some readers agree.”
His first collection is Dark Journeys. It is a mix of horror, speculative fiction, and science-fiction. The stories were published in an anthology and the other was printed in a magazine. Richard specifically said that those are some of his favorites!
His favorite quotation: “Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.” – Cyril Connolly
Reflections in Blue Water and Other Stories is mainstream fiction. Richard prefers not to fix his story in just one category when it comes to the fiction genre. He just mainly writes what interests him. And the stories he wrote are inspired by these authors, Raymond Carver, Hemingway, Oates, and Cheever.
“To me, it means to write stories that I enjoy, that make me think or feel or wonder. When I’m working on a story I never wonder if people will like it. All that matters is if I like it. If I do, then I consider it a success. Having other people like it is just the cherry on top.” – Richard Bist
